Gartner ranks Freescale No. 1 Processor for Wired and Wireless Networking Markets

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Freescale has extended its position as the market leader in wired and wireless communications processors, according to rankings recently issued by analyst group Gartner. The firm ranks Freescale number one with 53 per cent of the market in 2010 and separates Freescale from its closest competitor by more than 40 per cent. "Adoption of multicore QorIQ processors among customers targeting wired and wireless communications processors is strong and getting stronger. HCL Tech Profit escalates 52%

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE HCL has posted 52-per cent jump in net profit for April-June, as all its verticals and geographies posted strong growth. HCL said consolidated profit rose to Rs.511 crore for April-June, compared with a profit of Rs.337 crore a year ago. Revenue rose 27.5 per cent to Rs.4,300 crore, on an average exchange rate basis. A media poll of brokerages showed analysts expected profit to rise 45 per cent to Rs.494 crore, on the revenue of Rs.4,318 crore. HCL, which follows a July-June fiscal, however, raises wages only in its fiscal first quarter, enabling it to post better margins compared to peers. HCL, which added 3,626 employees on a net basis during April - June, said the operating margin was almost flat at 18.5 per cent for the period. Cognizant-CoreLogic deal seals @ $50 mn

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Cognizant and CoreLogic announced an agreement in Bengaluru. Cognizant has acquired CoreLogic Global Services' captive operations in India. The deal will be sealed for $50 million. CoreLogic and Cognizant will enter into a services agreement with a minimum revenue commitment of $324 million, plus applicable inflation adjustments, over five years with various renewal and extension rights, under which Cognizant would provide a range of services to CoreLogic globally. The companies expect to provide end-to-end business process and analytics solutions across the mortgage value chain. CoreLogic India, whose approximately 4,000 associates would become employees of Cognizant at closing, provides, among others, capabilities in software product development and technology support to CoreLogic and its customers, primarily in the US mortgage and real estate markets. IGNOU to provide IT Mass Literacy

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has planned to increase e-literacy level in the country, especially at the grass root level. The university hosted a day-long brainstorming session to create awareness about information technology (IT) and its utility in all walks of life. IGNOU organised this session in collaboration with the ministry of human resource development division and the ministry of communication and information technology. Currently TTD offers four main e-services such as e-seva, e-accommodation, e-sudarshanam and e-hundi to the devotees and the Sri Seva project would help the administration in offering services. There are as many as 48 departments which need to be automated and brought under one platform for better services to pilgrims. The Redmond, Washington-based personal computer software powerhouse said the update to its Windows Phone operating system, code-named "Mango," features over 500 new features and faster browsing with Internet Explorer 9 (IE9). Microsoft unveiled Mango in May, promising it will be available by year's end for free to existing Windows Phone 7 customers and will ship on new phones from Samsung, LG and HTC and new partners Acer, Fujitsu and ZTE. The restructuring also raises fears of job losses in an industry confronting issues like slowing growth and high marketing spends amid cut-price tariffs. The unified structure could end up making job positions redundant at the company. The move, as per the report, will also collapse all circles under four regional heads: Vineet Bhatia (West and Upper North), Mahesh Thampi (East and UP), Yatish Mehrotra (South) and Ajit Chaturvedi (Delhi and Rajasthan).
