DDoS traffic in 2014 has origin in India – Symantec research

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   According to a new global research from security experts at Symantec, India topped the global top 50 ranking of countries that have witnessed the highest volume of “originating DDoS traffic”, with 26 per cent of all DDoS traffic originating from the country, followed by the USA with 17 per cent. “The sources for DoS attacks are often countries that have a high number of bot-infected machines and a low adoption rate of filtering of spoofed packets. While this does not mean that the people behind the attack are located in India, as the attacks are often orchestrated remotely, it is a reflection of India emerging as a hotbed to launch these attacks, potentially because of the low cybersecurity awareness, lack of adequate security practices and infrastructure,” said Tarun Kaura, Director, Technology Sales, Symantec India. Telenor acquires Telewings’ 100-per cent stake in India

As a result, Telenor now takes full ownership of the company that operates under the brand name Uninor. The process was finalized after Telenor received approval from the Indian Government's Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to increase its stake from 74 per cent to 100 per cent. NIELIT signs MOU with Intel

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE     Taking forward the National Digital Literacy Mission and Digital India Campaign of the Government of India, the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), a body with the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Ministry of Communications & IT, Government of India, has signed an MOU with Intel India to jointly conduct courses and online examinations on digital literacy as well as vet NIELIT’s courses on Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM). Intel will develop the software for assessment of candidates under the National Digital Literacy Mission to make the courses more industry oriented to endeavour to make one member of each household digitally literate in India. TV Digitization holds significance in making India digital

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Shri Prakash Javadekar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting, has said the Digitization process was an integral component of the Digital India initiative of the Prime Minister. The Cable TV Digitization process aimed at providing the consumer with greater choices and affordable and qualitative options. The overall objective was to be sensitive to the needs and choice of the consumer. The choice of the consumer was paramount in defining the inputs, strategies and roadmap for the remaining phases of the digitization process. The Minister stated this while addressing the first meeting of the Task Force set up for Cable TV Digitization (Phase III and Phase IV) here today. Narayana Murthy quits as non-executive chairman

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   As per the latest update, Infosys’ co-founder Narayana Murthy is all set to step down as non-executive chairman of the company. The Infosys Board has Murthy’s decision and thanked him for his valuable contributions for the company.   According to an official statement given by Infosys, “Narayana Murthy will cease to be non-executive chairman effective October 10, 2014. He indicated that in line with the company’s high corporate governance standards and to avoid any perceived conflicts, it would not be appropriate for him to be the chairman-Emeritus of Infosys.” If reports are to be believed, K. V. Kamath will fill his shoes as the new chairman of the Board effective October 11, 2014.

HP to split into two companies

The company is dividing its computer and printer business from its corporate hardware and services operations. If reports are to be believed, HP will also go for another 5,000 layoffs as part of its turnaround plan. According to the latest update, HP’s present Chief Executive Meg Whitman will head both HP Enterprise and printing & PC business and the enterprise segment will house the corporate hardware and services operations. Meg Whitman said, “The split would give both firms the required ‘flexibility’ they need to adapt quickly to market and customer dynamics.
