TRAI unveils TCCMS portal

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched a facility to monitor complaints from telecom consumers, called Telecom Consumers Complaint Monitoring System (TCCMS) portal www.tccms.gov.in.  It is believed to facilitate the telecom consumers in locating the "Consumer Care Number", "General Information Number" and contact details of the complaint centre and Appellate Authority of their service provider. The portal would also help access the website of their service provider's complaint monitoring portal to track the current status of their complaints or appeals lodged with their service provider complaint centre or Appellate Authority. Samsung becomes World's largest Cellphone brand

However, Samsung remained in second place in the smartphone segment of the cellphone market, behind Apple Inc. The South Korean electronics giant shipped 92 million cellphones worldwide in the first quarter, compared to 83 million for longtime market leader Nokia.While Samsung's shipments declined by 13 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2011, Nokia's dropped by 27 percent, as presented in Table 1. Windows malware on Macs discovered

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Sophos has revealed a disturbingly high level of malware on Mac computers-with both Windows and Mac threats being discovered. Sophos experts analyzed a snapshot of 100,000 Mac computers running its free anti-virus software, and discovered that one in five machines was found to be carrying one or more instances of Windows malware. Although Windows malware on Macs will not cause symptoms (unless users also run Windows on their computer), it can still be spread to other computers. GSMA statement on TRAI Recommendations

Microsoft Security Intelligence Report released

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Microsoft Corp. has released the Microsoft Security Intelligence Report volume 12 (SIRv12), which found that the Conficker worm was detected approximately 220 million times worldwide in the past two and a half years, making it one of the biggest ongoing threats to enterprises. The study also revealed the worm continues to spread because of weak or stolen passwords and vulnerabilities for which a security update exists. According to the SIRv12, quarterly detections of the Conficker worm have increased by more than 225 percent since the beginning of 2009. In the fourth quarter of 2011 alone, Conficker was detected on 1.7 million systems worldwide. In examining the reasons behind Conficker's prevalence in organizations, research showed that 92 percent of Conficker infections were a result of weak or stolen passwords, and 8 percent of infections exploited vulnerabilities for which a security update exists. SMBs to adopt Server Virtualization soon

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   According to a recent survey conducted by Acronis, small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) around the world are planning to adopt server virtualization in 2012 at a faster pace than large enterprises. However, the survey also identified widespread backup and disaster recovery shortcomings for virtual servers amongst SMBs.  IT managers at 6,000 SMBs in 18 countries were surveyed for the Acronis Global Disaster Recovery Index 2012. They predict that 29% of their servers will be virtualized by the end of the year, a growth rate of 21%. This is 50% higher than the pace identified in a recent Gartner report that predicted virtualization adoption by enterprises is to increase by 14% over the same period.
