AWS adds Microsoft Windows Server Instances to Free Usage Tier

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Amazon Web Services LLC (AWS), an Amazon.com company has unveiled that customers can now run their Microsoft Windows Server applications within the AWS Free Usage Tier - a program claimed to be designed to help new AWS customers get started in the cloud. Developers and businesses with Windows Server applications are expected to take advantage of 750 hours of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) Micro Instance usage per month, at no charge for a one year period. SRG uses Spirent for Independent Data Performance Benchmark Test of LTE Chipsets

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Signals Research Group, LLC (SRG) has announced the findings of the data performance benchmark test of commercially-available LTE chipsets. Although the SRG report highlighted the ability of some chipsets to realize the promise of LTE's high data rates, large performance differences were found between commercially-available implementations in devices. Using a lab-based testing approach on the Spirent 8100 solution, SRG collected and analyzed the data performance of five commercial devices from LG, Sierra Wireless, Novatel Wireless, Samsung and Fujitsu, which use chipsets from four different vendors. Kaspersky Lab warns of New Facebook Chat Phishing Attack

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Kaspersky Lab has reported a new phishing attack on Facebook that uses hijacked accounts to pose as the social network's security team and trick users into divulging credit card numbers. David Jacoby, Security Expert, Kaspersky Lab, said, 'The latest scam is unique because it doesn't just try to get Facebook users to click on a link to a malicious Web site. The attackers also use the stolen information to log into the person's account and swap the profile picture with a Facebook logo and change the name to 'FacebookSecurity'." Once the account is compromised, it is used to send out a message to all contacts, warning them that someone has reported a problem with their accounts and they will be turned off unless reconfirmed by the accountholder. Kaspersky Lab reports spam for December 2011

The last month of the year was predictably quiet as compared to November the share of spam in email traffic fell 4.4 percentage points and averaged 76.2% for the month. Maria Namestnikova, Senior Spam Analyst, Kaspersky Lab shared, "We still have not detected any malicious attachments disguised as coupons, although we expect that these will show up in spam sooner or later. Anything and everything that is in demand on the Internet is eventually added to the spammers' arsenals in one way or another. Primarily, new approaches are typically used by the participants of affiliate programs that send out spam advertising medications and replicas of luxury goods. They are later joined by distributors of malicious code." Malicious files were detected in 4% of all email traffic in December, which was an increase of 1 percentage point compared to November'

CMC rolls out Q3 2011-12 Results

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE CMC has announced consolidated operating revenue of Rs.395.84 crore in the quarter ending December 31, 2011, which represents 45-per cent growth over the corresponding period last year and sequential growth of 11 per cent. The company earned profit after tax of Rs.41.37 crore, representing sequential growth of 27 per cent. On a cumulative basis, the Company earned operating revenue of Rs.1,058.04 crore in the first nine months of the current financial year, resulting in growth of 34 per cent over corresponding period last year. The company has added 1,474 employees during the current quarter buoyed by the growth in business. The attrition rate during the quarter fell to 18.7 per cent from 22.2 per cent in the previous quarter. "The company has built strong growth momentum in challenging business environment with all geographies contributing to growth. The company added 21 clients across geographies," said R. Ramanan, CEO & MD.

Government of India sanctions prosecution of 21 websites

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE The Government has given sanction for the prosecution of 21 social networking sites like Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo India under section 196 of the Criminal Procedure Code to proceed against the accused persons in the complaint for allegedly promoting enmity between classes and causing prejudice to national integration. In the report given to metropolitan magistrate Sudesh Kumar, it is noted that, "The sanctioning authority has personally gone through the entire records and material produced before magistrate Sudesh Kumar and after considering and examining the same, he is satisfied that there is sufficient material to proceed against the accused persons under section 153-A, 153-B and 295-A of the IPC."
