IRDA selects Mahindra Satyam for its IT project

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE IRDA has announced that Mahindra Satyam has been selected as an implementing agency for the development and implementation of Integrated Surveyor Licence Management System (ISLMS). The regulator claimed that the selection was made following a detailed scrutiny of the commercial proposals submitted by shortlisted IT firms and further evaluation. Tata Consultancy Services, CMC, NSE IT, NIIT Technology, R Systems International and L&T Infotech are the other shortlisted firms. IRDA intends to create ISLMS to facilitate the surveyor to register online and see their licence issuance and renewal status in order to have an effective licence generation, renewal and monitoring mechanism. Sony slashes PlayStation 3 price

The base model is now worth $250 and the other system with twice the storage will now cost $300. Sony reduced the prices of PlayStation 3 in 2009 when it had released its slimmer version. It rolled out the cuts a week after sales for new games suffered their lowest month in nearly five years, according to industry buzz. Sony will be lowering prices on the eve of Gamescom, Europe's largest video games show. The price tag on the 160 GB version of PlayStation 3 is now $249, down from $299. In Europe and Japan, the console's price also has been cut to 249 Euros and 24,980 yen from 299 Euros and 29,980 yen, respectively. Dell Reports Q2 FY12 Results

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Dell's investment in differentiated enterprise solutions and services continued to drive substantial gains in the company's profitability in the fiscal second quarter as operating income rose significantly on a 1 percent revenue increase. The Revenue in the quarter was $15.7 billion, up 1 percent over last year and 4 percent sequentially. GAAP earning per share was 48 cents, up 71 percent, non-GAAP EPS was 54 cents, up 69 percent. Vendor settlements resulted in approximately $70 million in benefit in the quarter that increased non-GAAP gross margins 50 basis points and non-GAAP earnings per share by 4cents.GAAP operating income was $1.1 billion, or 7.3 percent of revenue. Non-GAAP operating income was $1.3 billion, or 8.5 percent of revenue. Cash flow from operations was $2.4 billion for the quarter and $5.2 billion over the last four quarters. Tested under RAID 5 configuration in a Windows environment, the DS411 delivers an average read and write speed at 105 MB/sec and 47 MB/sec respectively. When operating under load, the DS411 consumes power at an energy efficiency rate of 29.7 watts. Energy is reduced to 11.0 watts when hard drives enter hibernation mode to further lowering users' energy bills. The company already has 3-4 customers who are willing to be serviced out of the US once it sets shop in the country. "Quite a few customers have work which they are not comfortable in offshoring and want it to be delivered near them. Moreover, as a global company we need to create jobs onsite given that unemployment is a major theme in some of these countries. The company is currently evaluating several low-cost locations in the US. It is also open to the option of taking over its clients' employees onto its rolls. Convergys to recruit 1,000 by year end

Among the major changes are that Cisco's existing partner development funds (PDF) program which offers incentive payments for partners on certain types of deals to small business or midmarket customers has been renamed VIP Express.
