NetApp announces ONTAP 9 Enterprise Data Management Software

Image
NetApp has announced the launch of NetApp ONTAP 9 operating system, an enterprise data management software that combines new levels of simplicity and flexibility with powerful capabilities and efficiencies. With ONTAP 9 software, enterprises can quickly integrate the best of traditional and emerging technologies, incorporating flash, the cloud and software-defined architectures to build a Data Fabric foundation across on-premises and cloud resources. “As effective flash dollar-per-GB costs drop, flash deployment in the enterprise is accelerating. NetApp’s release of the industry’s first 15TB flash drive, combined with new storage efficiency technology features in ONTAP 9, continues to drive that cost down in a flash-optimized, enterprise-class storage platform that is well suited for the type of dense mixed workload consolidation that customers are increasingly looking to their trusted suppliers to deliver,” said Eric Burgener, Research Director for IDC’s Storage

Technology leaders tie up over Open Acceleration Framework to Data Centers

Image
To bring a high-performance open acceleration framework to data centers, Advanced Micro Devices, ARM, Huawei, IBM, Mellanox, Qualcomm Technologies Inc., and Xilinx, Inc. have collaborated. The companies are collaborating on the specification for the new Cache Coherent Interconnect for Accelerators (CCIX).  A single interconnect technology specification will ensure that processors using different  instruction set architectures (ISA) can coherently share data with accelerators and enable efficient heterogeneous computing – significantly improving compute efficiency for servers running data center workloads. “AMD strongly supports development of open standards to make heterogeneous computing more pervasive. By joining with others in the industry to develop new interconnect specifications to accelerate performance, AMD continues its commitment to open, heterogeneous computing,” said Gerry Talbot, AMD Corporate Fellow and Vice-President of I/O and Circuit Technologies.
