DigitalOcean  has announced the appointment of Barry Cooks as chief technology officer. In this role, Cooks will oversee the company’s overall product direction and development and will lead the engineering, product and infrastructure teams. Cooks brings more than 20 years of software, systems and product development expertise to DigitalOcean, including hardware and software engineering, product management, quality assurance and support. Most recently, Cooks served as vice-president of R&D, cloud operations products at VMware. Before VMware, he was senior vice-president of products, engineering and support at Virtual Instruments, and director of engineering at Sun Microsystems. DigitalOcean, the developer’s cloud computing platform, has launched its new datacenter in Bangalore, India to support India’s fast-growing developer and start-up ecosystem. DigitalOcean will continue to offer a single pricing plan across all of its regions worldwide, including Bangalore. This means SSD-enabled cloud servers starting at US$5 per month, and identical pricing for all additional services like bandwidth, snapshots and beyond.
