VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Alcatel-Lucent's  Board of Directors has approved the appointment of  Michel Combes  as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2013. Michel Combes will also join the company’s Board of Directors, subject to the approval of shareholders at the Alcatel-Lucent annual general meeting on May 7, 2013. Michel Combes, 51 has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry on a worldwide basis. He was Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Europe and a Board member of Vodafone PLC. During his career, he has held the positions of Chairman and CEO of TDF as well as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Executive Vice President of France Telecom. Built on innovations from Bell Labs, the Alcatel-Lucent Photonic Service Engine supports 400 gigabit per second (400G) data transmission speeds on optical networks. The Photonic Service Engine will bring substantial improvements to 100G coherent optical networks, which are being deployed by operators today.
