Alcatel-Lucent appoints Michel Combes as CEO

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Alcatel-Lucent's  Board of Directors has approved the appointment of  Michel Combes  as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2013. Michel Combes will also join the company’s Board of Directors, subject to the approval of shareholders at the Alcatel-Lucent annual general meeting on May 7, 2013. Michel Combes, 51 has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry on a worldwide basis. He was Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Europe and a Board member of Vodafone PLC. During his career, he has held the positions of Chairman and CEO of TDF as well as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Executive Vice President of France Telecom. Alcatel-Lucent positioned in Visionaries Quadrant

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Alcatel-Lucent has recently announced that market research firm Gartner, Inc. placed Alcatel-Lucent in the Visionaries quadrant of its report, "Magic Quadrant for the Wired and Wireless LAN Access Infrastructure" authored by Tim Zimmerman and Mark Fabbi. As stated in the report, "A vendor in the Visionaries quadrant has demonstrated the ability to increase the features in its offering to provide a unique and differentiated approach to the market. A Visionary will have innovated in one or more key areas of access layer technologies (e.g., convergence, security, management or operational efficiency)." Alcatel-Lucent brings Photonic Service Engine

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Alcatel-Lucent is introducing the Photonic Service Engine (PSE), a new chip for fiber optic networks that offers double the capacity, and four times the speed of today's networks. Built on innovations from Bell Labs, the Alcatel-Lucent Photonic Service Engine supports 400 gigabit per second (400G) data transmission speeds on optical networks. The Photonic Service Engine will bring substantial improvements to 100G coherent optical networks, which are being deployed by operators today. The PSE also lays the foundation for the smooth migration to 400G networks in future.
