The study with a wide sample of 1,200 respondents is said to provide IT companies with the key insights needed to adapt and prosper in a changing marketplace. Although Wipro was ahead of the curve, several companies now have started differentiating the job of a software engineer into several roles like testing, technical support and even coding and programming that can easily be performed by non-engineers. TCS announced hiring of science and commerce graduates from this year, ITC Infotech says 20 per cent of its tech hires will be non-engineers, and Wipro will have about 35-40 per cent of the new hires from the non-engineering stream. A HCL spokesperson commented, "There has been a marginal increase in their hiring of BSc and BCA graduates.
