Digicomp appointed Service Partner for ASUS Handheld Products

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE ASUS has announced the appointment of Digicomp Complete Solutions Ltd. as its service partner for all its handheld products. This includes the entire range of ASUS mobile phones as well as Garmin Asus co-branded models. The service for these products was earlier handled by Accel Frontline Services Ltd. and they will no longer be handling the same. The change is applicable from August 1, 2011 for all existing customers of ASUS handheld products and is expected to provide existing customers with continued support for their products. ZOTAC rolls out Dual HDMI Output Adaptors

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE ZOTAC has released the ZOTAC DisplayPort to Dual HDMI and mini-DisplayPort to Dual HDMI adaptors designed to double display output capabilities on desktops and notebooks. The ZOTAC Dual HDMI adaptors transform native DisplayPort and mini- DisplayPort outputs from notebooks, desktops, graphics cards and integrated graphics to dual HDMI outputs. The HDMI outputs are capable of resolutions up to 1920x1080 per port for a combined spanned resolution of 3840x1080 with the ZOTAC Dual HDMI adaptors. "Multiple monitors are becoming quite popular for day-to-day tasks. Facebook buys digital publishing company

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Facebook has bought a digital publishing company Push Pop Press that develops technology to help make interactive books optimised for iPad and other Apple devices. Push Pop Press was co-founded by Mike Matas and Kimon Tsinteris - both former Apple employees. It had also teamed up with former US vice president Al Gore to create a digital version of his book "Our Choice". "Although Facebook isn't planning to start publishing digital books, the ideas and technology behind Push Pop Press will be integrated with Facebook, giving people even richer ways to share their stories. With millions of people publishing to Facebook each day, we think it's going to be a great home for Push Pop Press," Push Pop Press said in a statement. Cognizant beats Wipro

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp continued its scorching growth and forecast a strong third quarter, at a time when rival Indian IT services exporters have warned of slowing technology spending. The company, which posted quarterly revenue of $1.49 billion, outpaced India's No.3 software services exporter Wipro's IT services revenue of $1.41 billion. Cognizant's net profit was up over 20 per cent to $208.04 million in the April-June 2011 quarter, up from $172.17 million in the year-ago period. Discretionary development spending by clients has been spurring growth at Cognizant, while many top players in India's showcase $76 billion software and services sector have raised concerns over economic uncertainties restricting their growth. Huawei to launch cloud-computing smartphones

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE China's Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. will unveil cloud-computing mobile phones in an attempt to replicate its telecom gear success in the smartphone market. The company, known for its low costs, is betting its cloud-computing smartphones will help the firm grab market share from the likes of Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics, analysts say. Cloud computing refers to data and software stored on computer servers rather than individual PCs and accessed over the Internet. Cloud computing smartphones will allow users to download applications without needing much storage space on their devices. Rs. 3,000 Tablet PC Developed For Poverty Survey

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has created a Rs. 3,000-tablet PC for the Ministry of Rural Development's poverty survey. According to Ashwani Kumar Datt, Chairman & Managing Director, BEL, the company would be benefited by the order for the tablets and the survey of people below the poverty line as it will fetch Rs. 1,000 crore for BEL this year. BEL registered Rs. 5,500 crore turnovers for the year ended March 2011; the 2011-12 guidance is for Rs. 6,200 crore. This new app will provide wireless connection to up to 500GB of storage. Karbonn plans mobile manufacturing unit in Chennai

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Karbonn Mobiles has plans to set up its first manufacturing unit in the country. The company will invest about Rs. 70 crore for this. Karbonn presently gets its phones manufactured by Foxconn in Taiwan and China. The company sources some of its models from Korea. Sudhir Hasija, Chairman, Karbonn Mobiles, said, "The Company will manufacture 60 per cent of its products in the unit to be set in India. Once the things get stabilised in this unit, we would like to have all its products made here. We are considering Chennai and also Bangalore. Out of the two cities, Chennai seems better for logistics." According to the sources Karbonn has approached the Tamil Nadu Government and the talks for setting up the unit are in preliminary stages. Infosys recruiting 25,000 for Pocharam campus

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Infosys will recruit 25,000 for its second centre in Hyderabad. They would recruit 14,000 in the first phase and 11,000 more in the second phase of the 448-acre special economic zone campus at Pocharam on the Warangal highway. An Infosys delegation led by its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Kris Gopalakrishnan, met N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, and explained to him about the expansion plan in Pocharam. "The facility already houses 4,000 employees. We will add the remaining in phases," quoted Gopalakrishnan. About 15,000 people worked in Infosys' facility at Gachibowli. The company's Pocharam facility was in the news recently after APIIC (Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation) served a notice on the company, asking it to explain the reasons for the delay in meeting the deadlines agreed upon. Google debuts Gmail voice calling in 38 languages

The new service with lower rates to over 150 destinations will be available in next few days. Last year, Google had announced this service in the US and Canada for free of cost and plans to extend the service at least for the rest of 2011. With the new service, Gmail users can buy calling credit of their choice in four currencies - Euros, British pounds, Canadian dollars or U.S. dollars - and there won't be any connection fees so that the user pays for the time they talk.
