Sistema JSFC and the CIS have announced the signing of binding documents regarding the merger of Sistema’s Indian telecommunications business with business of Reliance Communications. The signed documentation provides for the demerger of the telecommunication business from Sistema Shyam TeleServices Ltd (SSTL) and its merger with the telecommunications business of Reliance Communications Ltd (RCom) based on a Merger Scheme to be approved by Indian courts. As a result of the merger, SSTL will acquire and hold a 10% equity stake in RCom besides SSTL planning to pay off existing debt prior to the completion of the transaction. Following the completion of the transaction, RCom will take responsibility for payment of SSTL’s frequency spectrum licensing fees payable by installments to the Department of Telecommunications of India. Reliance Communications has announced that its partnership with Facebook will together offer free data access to useful websites to Reliance customers through Internet.org. Internet.org provides access to popular websites and services with zero data charges in order to make it easier for people to access the Internet, across both the 2G & 3G platforms.  Customers will now enjoy access to popular websites with zero data charges, including Facebook. These services will be available for Reliance customers in the telecom Circles of Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   As per the latest update,  Reliance Communications  has appointed an ex-Bharti Airtel executive  Vinod Sawhny as its new Chief Executive Officer . Prior to joining RCOM, Sawhny had served Bharti for ten years in various roles spanning telecom, retail and consumer durables. According to a spokesperson from RCom. “The Company’s previous CEO of wireless operations, Gurdeep Singh will have an expanded role, taking overall charge of its consumer business arm comprising wireless, DTH and consumer broadband divisions.” Besides Shawny’s appointment, RCOM has also announced some other top management changes. Once in place, RCOM’s 2G GSM customers will be able to roam seamlessly on all partner networks, free of any additional cost. These ICR agreements will increase RCOM's national 2G GSM network footprint by 10,000 base stations and bring in an addressable market of over 150 million customers, adding up to a market opportunity of over Rs.10,000 crore.
