Ericsson to accelerate 5G mid-band rollouts with MIMO and RAN Compute solutions:  Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC)   has launched three new radios in its industry-leading   Massive MIMO portfolio   and expanded its RAN Compute portfolio with six RAN Compute products to accelerate 5G mid-band rollouts. Bharti Airtel and Ericsson said that they have successfully conducted India’s first trial of Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) technology over a LIVE LTE network . LAA is a key technology as operators evolve their networks to achieve Gigabit LTE by opening up previously untapped resources of unlicensed spectrum delivering speeds once thought only possible over fiber. LAA enables the use of unlicensed spectrum in the 5 GHz band in combination with the licensed spectrum. Ericsson has established a Centre of Excellence (CoE) and Innovation Lab for 5G in the country at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi. This first-of-its-kind 5G innovation Lab, which has been set up by Ericsson for Indian industry and academia to leverage, is dedicated to the nation by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Communications (I/C) and Minister of State for Railways, Shri Manoj Sinha, together with Börje Ekholm, President & CEO, Ericsson, at the IIT Delhi. Reliance Communications has joined Ozone Networks and Ericsson Small Cell-as-a-Service carrier-grade Wi Fi network. The network will enable RCOM to utilize the existing Ericsson/Ozone Wi-Fi infrastructure, and launch Wi-Fi services for a seamless end-user experience using the carrier-grade small cell network. To collaborate on the development of 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, Ericsson and LG Uplus have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The agreement will initially run until 2020. Bharti Airtel and Ericsson have inked a deal over rollout of 4G (LTE-FDD) network in Delhi. The two companies have also signed an agreement to expand 3G WCDMA network across eight telecom circles in India. Both the agreements are for four years. Ericsson will enable Bharti Airtel to meet growing customer demand for mobile broadband services while delivering superior network performance. On 4G, Airtel subscribers will be able to enjoy an improved smartphone experience, with faster web browsing, downloads, video on demand, and many other services. Ericsson has signed an agreement with Sterlite Technologies to work together in driving Smart Sustainable City initiatives in India in line with the Government’s vision of Digital India. Ericsson has signed an MoU with the South Korean operator KT for collaboration in the IoT (Internet of Things) area. KT and Ericsson identified LTE-MTC (Machine Type Communications) network and IoT service based on the network as the collaboration items, considering battery life, coverage and complexity of devices. Ericsson ConsumerLab has released a new report titled “The Changing Mobile Broadband Landscape” which highlights the evolving mobile broadband adoption and usage in urban India. The report focusses on consumers from different socio-economic backgrounds who are using mobile internet on smartphones. The study reveals diverse behaviour and needs of different mobile broadband users and the need for service providers to offer personalization. Users’ needs are evolving as usage of services and applications on smartphones is becoming a way of life. With the decrease in smartphone prices, the adoption of mobile Internet within the lower socio-economic segment has increased over the last two years: from 38 per cent in 2013 to 45 per cent in 2015.  Three in five smartphone users use mobile broadband in urban India. Ericsson did not reveal the details of the deal. The networking supplier will provide managed services including content management and preparation, digital rights management, subscriber management and billing and advertising insertion for multiple devices and platforms. The online TV service will be launched at the end of this year. Bonnier Group content includes sports, local and international drama series, sitcoms and Swedish and international feature films will be available both on-demand and live.
