Reliance Globalcom upgrades its European Network

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Reliance Globalcom has announced that it is upgrading its European Network with coherent 100G technology.  Reliance Globalcom, which boasts international subsea cable assets spanning over 73,000 Route Kilometers, will be using Ciena's 6500 Packet Optical Platform and WaveLogic coherent optical processors to deploy the 100G network.  Part of the European network connecting Marseilles, London, Paris and Frankfurt is planned to be upgraded with 100G wavelength technology by the end of 2012. The upgraded network will enable Reliance Globalcom to support the surge in high-bandwidth intensive applications that encompass cloud computing, video conferencing, business continuity/disaster recovery, data center connectivity, and storage area networking, in addition to ever-increasing Internet traffic. European Aeronautical Supplier's Website hacked

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Sophos Labs has determined that the website of a European aeronautical parts supplier – which is currently not being named due to the sensitivity of the situation - had been hacked, and a malicious attack planted on the website which exploits zero-day Microsoft security vulnerability.    Users running any flavour of currently-supported Windows are vulnerable, from XP, up to and including Windows 7.  All supported editions of Microsoft Office 2003 and Microsoft Office 2007 are also vulnerable.  There is not yet an official patch from Microsoft, but the company recommends that Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office users immediately install a Fix-it solution, downloadable with instructions from Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 2719615, until the company issues an official fix. EU-India ICT Research Position Paper

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE A project sponsored by the European Commission under Framework Programme 7 (FP7), and supported by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MCIT), Government of India, is believed to be an ambitious strategic initiative with the core objective to enhance the impact of the significantly progressing EU-India research policy dialogues in the Information Technology domain. In this framework, the project developed a 'Position Paper' containing EU-India joint ICT research priorities and policy recommendations, including specific research dimensions of the priorities shortlisted at the 6th EU-India ICT Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting held in March 2009 in Brussels. The Position Paper is the outcome of the discussions and deliberations of two Think Thank meetings held among high level EU-Indian ICT experts who are part of the Synchroniser Steering Committee (SSC). European and Indian Research and Technology Organizations to Produce Joint Roadmap for Advanced IT Research

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE The Open Group and the Interactive Technology Software and Media Association (ITSMA) have announced that they have partnered with a consortium of leading European and Indian research and technology developers to identify future areas for coordination of government funded IT research. Supported by the European Commission, the Fostering Cooperation in Computing Systems for EU and India (EU-INCOOP) project is investing over 460,000 EURO (US$630,000) to bring together leading researchers from India and Europe to identify priorities and develop a joint research roadmap that is said to increase cooperation and address future technology needs in each region. The roadmap and recommendations is claimed to be used to identify areas of common interests and foster closer links between Governments’ funded research projects in Europe and India.
