Sebi initiates enforcement actions in NSE co-location case

The market regulator ( SEBI ) said, it has initiated the probe against various entities in the NSE co-location case, with this it has alleged various lapses in high-frequency trading offered through the National Stock Exchange's co-location facility. We have received the NSE investigation report in the co-location case... have initiated enforcement actions," Sebi Chairman Ajay Tyagi said. In the coming few days, the enforcement actions would be completed against the entities, he added. Tyagi also said that the investigation has nothing to do with the NSE's proposed initial public offer.The regulator was probing allegations that some brokers had unfair access to NSE's high frequency trading systems. Apple faces US$9-Million fine in Australia

As per a news source, the Australian Federal Court has ordered Apple to pay $9 million as penalty for making false or misleading representations to customers with faulty iPhones and iPads about their rights under the Australian consumer law. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) took action against Apple US and Apple Australia, following an investigation of complaints relating to “error 53”. This error disables some iPhones and iPads after owners download an update to Apple’s iOS operating system. Apple US admits that it had represented to at least 275 Australian customers from February 2015 to February 2016 affected by the error that they were no longer eligible for a remedy if their device had been repaired by a third party. AT&T Time Warner merger without conditions

A US Federal judge has ruled that AT&T’s US$85 billion acquisition of Time Warner is legal, without placing any conditions on the merger of the telecom and media giants. U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon further said, he would deny a stay on the deal if requested by the Justice Dept., meaning that even if DOJ appeals, the companies are free to close. That did not impose conditions on the merger's approval and secondly, he also urged the government not to seek a stay when issuing his decision in a closed-door room with reporters. Google will not go for another contract or renew for its controversial experiment providing artificial intelligence to the U.S. Department of Defence for analyzing drone footage after its current contract expires. Google Cloud CEO Mr.Diane Greene give out the decision at a meeting with employees last Friday morning, three sources told Gizmodo. The current contract expires in 2019 and there will not be a new followed contract, Greene said. The meeting, designated as Weather Report, is a weekly update on Google Cloud’s business. Google would not trail the Maven today because the reverberations has been horrible for the company, Greene said, adding that the decision was made at a time when Google was more aggressively trailing military work. India's mobile subscriber base crosses 1 billion mark

Due to the rapid growth of smartphones in the market, fixed line connections declined steadily down to 22.81 million connections. Though state-run firm BSNL dominated the market with highest share of 12.26 million customers, it lost 5,304 customers. RCom lost 169,052 fixed line connections and MTNL 10,157 connections. Airtel topped the chart in terms of market share with 304.19 million subscribers, followed by Vodafone 222.69 million and Idea with 211.2 million customers. DoT approves 100% FDI limit in Idea Cellular

Idea Cellular Ltd has received an approval on its application to increase Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) limit in the company to 100%, from the current 67.5%, from the Department of Telecom (DoT) today. The approval is for total foreign investment up to 100% in Idea Cellular Ltd, and total indirect FDI in its relevant subsidiaries – Aditya Birla Telecom Ltd and Idea Cellular Infrastructure Services Ltd. The FDI approval is a major milestone in the merger process of Vodafone India with Idea Cellular, and follows other statutory approvals already received from SEBI, NSE, BSE, CCI and NCLT Mumbai and NCLT, Ahmedabad.
