Google becomes secondary storage for human brains

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Google is changing the way our brains remember information, According to a new study that says, "readily available information online makes people easily forget facts since computers become their external memory ". Researchers from Harvard University and Columbia University said, "Google and databases such as Amazon.com, IMDb.com serve as an external memory, where information is stored collectively outside us." People are more likely to remember things they think they will not be able to find online and will have a harder time recalling information which they know they can easily access online, the study added. Since the advent of search engines, we are re-organising the way we remember things. Our brains rely on the Internet for memory in much the same way they rely on the memory of a friend, family member or co-worker. For More Details See www.varindia.com

The founder of Facebook has been in the news for his activities on Google+. According to the reports, Zuckerberg has apparently changed his privacy settings so that they no longer display how many people follow him or how many people he has placed in circles on the new social network. Circles are groups of friends on Google+. Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin reportedly too seem to have hit the privacy button, hiding how many friends and followers they have on Google+. The trio have since then fallen off a ranking of the 100 most popular people on the new social network. The unofficial top 100 list is compiled by an Amsterdam-based team of programmers on a site called Google+ Statistics. DoT to take back unused spectrum soon

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE The Department of Telecom will soon get powers to take back spectrum from operators who are not using it. Under the proposed Spectrum Act, the DoT will get authority to crack down on service providers squatting on airwaves. At present, operators can keep spectrum as long as they meet roll out obligation stipulated under the licence conditions irrespective of whether they have active subscribers or not. This requires them to simply set up towers and show coverage. A number of new players, which got spectrum in 2008, have managed to keep the spectrum despite the fact they have not launched services. They have been able to do so because under the current rules they are required to show proof of coverage in terms of geography. But the new Spectrum Act being drafted by the DoT aims to make operators accountable for efficient usage of airwaves. The proposed Act will also lay down rules for spectrum re-farming and relocation from existing users. For
