Cards & Payments Asia fortifies its position

Junk Mail gathers pace in US

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Kaspersky Lab's monthly report on spammer activity shows the proportion of spam in email traffic was up 2.2 percentage points in April compared to the previous month and averaged 77.2%. There were also some major changes in the geographical distribution of spam sources. The most noticeable change over the month was a surge in spam originating in the US that saw it jump 18 places, making the US the second-biggest distributor of junk mail in April. The amount of spam emanating from China also increased by 5 percentage points and the country is now ranked fifth among the world’s top sources of spam. Meanwhile, the proportion of unwanted correspondence originating in Indonesia fell by 5.2 percentage points, with the country falling 10 places and ending April in twelfth place. "In the months to come, we expect a return of the all-too-familiar spam mailings with scandalous news items about current US President Barack Obama.

Acquisition offer for LTV 2012 resolved

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Ericsson has expanded its treasury stock in order to provide shares for the Long-Term Variable Remuneration Programme (LTV) 2012 for employees in Ericsson in accordance with the resolution adopted at the Annual General Meeting 2012.  The Board of Directors of Ericsson has resolved, by virtue of an authorization given by the Annual General Meeting to direct an acquisition offer to all holders of C shares to acquire these shares. Acquisition shall be made during the period May 25 - June 13, 2012. Payment for acquired shares shall be made in cash with SEK 5.0052 per share.  The offer is part of the financing of Ericsson's Long-Term Variable Remuneration Programme 2012 and includes all 31,700,000 C shares which Ericsson has previously decided to issue to AB Industrivärden and Investor AB, for the programme. ZTE launches SIM-based NFC Mobile Device

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   ZTE has introduced the world's first SIM-based NFC (near field communication) mobile device to be used for toll payments in Turkey. Launched in January this year and available on Turkcell T11 (also known as the ZTE Racer II), the service is supported by Turkey's largest mobile operator, Turkcell.  Turkcell T11 is powered by Android 2.2 Froyo and an ARM processor running at over 600MHz. It comes with 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM and 200MB of internal memory. Multi-tasking on the phone is smooth.
