IT security employees spend six hours of working week on hobbies: Kaspersky:  As much as  85% of IT Security  staff engage in leisure activities during working hours. Typically, these hobbies account for six hours [1]  a week, which is an hour more than staff across the company overall. A reason for these breaks may be to find a distraction from high workloads, which was also cited as the most common reason to leave a cybersecurity job. These are findings extracted from a new Kaspersky report titled ‘ Managing your IT security team’ .   Cybersecurity can involve routine and repetitive tasks, which affects both productivity and motivation to work. Kaspersky Lab has bagged the Directorate General Supplies & Disposals (DGS&D) rate contract agreement to address the needs of IT security for government organizations. The contract will be operational till 31st October, 2016. The average for the year stood at 72.1 - 8.2 percentage points less than in 2011. Such a prolonged and substantial decrease in spam levels is unprecedented. The main reason behind the decrease in the spam volume is the overall heightened level of anti-spam protection. Spam filters are now in place on just about every email system, even free ones. Also, many email providers have introduced mandatory DKIM signature policies (digital signatures that verify the domain from which emails are sent). It is reportedly said that  patent No. 8661547  was issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office and describes a technology that safeguards cloud services against false information that might be sent to them. The newly patented system performs a number of tests before using any information uploaded from a device. The server checks whether the data communication protocol specifications were violated: an unusual sequence of operations or other anomalies while sending data may indicate an attempt by cybercriminals to interfere in the server’s operation. VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   According to the 2013 Global Corporate IT Security Risks survey by  Kaspersky Lab , it has been revealed that most of the companies in India have underestimated the number of  new malicious programs  appearing daily, and only 6% had the realistic idea of how much the new malware appears every day. In terms of figure, 90% of global participants in the survey named a lower figure; 4% guessed too high and only 6% gave an accurate estimate. The survey also gave an overview of the ignorance of the companies against the cyber attacks. In addition, the lab survey revealed that an average 66% of companies had experienced at least one attack involving malware in the previous 12 months. According to Kaspersky Lab's report, the Winnti group has been attacking companies in the online gaming industry since 2009 and is currently still active. The group’s objectives are stealing digital certificates signed by legitimate software vendors in addition to intellectual property theft, including the source code of online game projects. VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE According to a recent report generated by  Kaspersky Lab, the share of spam  in mail traffic fell sharply in November to 62.9 per cent, a decrease of over five percentage points compared to October’s average. It was the second month in a row that spammer activity was at a minimum for the year. Despite the percentage of phishing attacks also falling by half (0.015% of all mail), the danger posed by spam has not abated.  Malicious programs  were detected in 3.27% of email traffic – a slight increase on the previous month. Among the biggest sources of spam around the world, the leading countries are still China (32.7%) and the US (23.8%).
