ESET reveals its research

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Researchers from global security company ESET have recently found a new modification of infamous Win32/Rovnix Trojan, a rootkit malware targeting Windows OS. Analysts expect an increase in native 64-bit malware, especially rootkits, in 2012. The Win32/Rovnix.B, as other rootkit droppers, is distributed by an affiliation program (Pay Per Install). Affiliates receive between $8 to $160 for every 1,000 installations of such rootkits, the price particularly in India is the lowest in the market. Previously, Win32/Rovnix was mainly distributed from two domains - malwox.com and netox.biz with affiliation programs. 57% hike in the power of DDoS attacks

Data received from Kaspersky Lab's botnet monitoring system and Kaspersky DDoS Prevention show that the most powerful attack was 20% stronger compared to the first half of the year, and amounted to 600 Mbit/sec. The average attack strength in the second half of 2011 was 110 Mbit/sec - an increase of 57%. Despite the relative simplicity of these techniques, researchers have recently noted a shift away from conventional DDoS attacks using large amounts of traffic, to attacks that lead to exploiting substantial resources on the server under attack.
