Techcom rolls out T-30 with Dual Memory Card Support

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Techcom has introduced the T-30 handset which comes in a matte finish and provides Dual SIM Dual Standby (G+G) enabling two different numbers in the same phone at the same time. Its dual Memory Card slots supporting up to 10 (8+2) GB of external memory ease transfer of data. T-30's Auto Call Record facility enables you to record all your incoming and outgoing calls and saves the conversations in your memory card. This handset also features 1.8-inch TFT screen, a digital camera with a video recorder. The Video Player 3GP/MP4 in the handset can play a full 3-hour (200 MB) movie at one go. Seagate Technology reports Q4FY11 Financial Results

The company shipped 52 million disk drives and reported revenue of $2.9 billion, gross margin of 19.3%, net income of $119 million and diluted earnings per share of $0.27. On a non-GAAP basis which excludes the net impact of restructuring, write-down of an equity investment, gain on the sale of one of its facilities, and expenses related to the previously announced transaction with Samsung, Seagate reported net income of $126 million and diluted earnings per share of $0.28 for the quarter ended July 1, 2011. For the fiscal year ended July 1, 2011, the company reported revenue of $11.0 billion, gross margin of 19.6%, net income of $511 million and diluted earnings per share of $1.09. Apple Now World's Biggest Smartphone Seller

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Apple has beaten Nokia in the smartphones category, an area the Finnish company had been losing ground to the US tech giant since the iPhone hit the market, as per the April-June quarter results filed by the two companies. Nokia, which filed its second quarter results, sold 16.7 million smartphones worldwide, while Apple's third quarter numbers reveal that it sold 20.34 million units, across the globe. During the June quarter, Nokia saw the erosion of its smartphone sales, which dipped 34 per cent compared to 25.2 million units sold by the company in the same quarter of 2010. Sale of other mobile phone devices of Nokia was down by 16 per cent to 71.8 million compared to 85.8 million in the same quarter a year ago. Wipro reported IT services revenues at $1.408 billion for the April-June quarter. This is about $40 million less than Cognizant's April-June quarter revenue guidance of $1.45 billion. An analyst Tientsin Huang, in a report on Cognizant dated July 15 drew a revenue estimate of $1.46 billion for the company in the April-June quarter. Huang expects an upside in revenues because of Cognizant's track record of reporting premium growth in the June quarter and its more favorable regional mix (larger proportion of North America). Cognizant's $1.45 billion April-June guidance is also greater than the lower end of Wipro's July-September revenue guidance of between $1.436-1.464 billion. DoT likely to offer unlimited calls Via Internet

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE The Department of Telecom (DoT) is mulling over opening up the Internet telephony segment and allowing unrestricted calls by consumers using their Internet connections, revealed a source. As per senior officials in the Department, this may be included in the New Telecom Policy expected to be finalised by November. A top DoT official said, "We have received representations from the industry and from within the DoT to open up Net telephony. We are seriously looking at how to go about it." The issue was also discussed at a July 13 meeting with Indian Telecom Services officers. If unrestricted Net telephony is allowed, it will enable players such as the Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Infotel, which recently bought broadband wireless access spectrum, to offer voice services along with data.
