iPhones to become costlier after raise in import duty

Post the raise on import duty on smartphones, the price of almost every iPhone model that Apple sells in India has gone up by Rs.3,720. The move to increase customs duty was announced to promote domestic manufacturers and give an impetus to Modi government's ambitious “Make-in-India” initiative. From the earlier 10 per cent, the government had increased import taxes on smartphones to 15 per cent. Other electronic items to get a tax hike included television sets, projectors, and water heaters which saw 5-10 per cent increase in basic customs duty. Apple was expected to increase the prices of iPhones in India soon after the customs duty hike, as it imports them for sale in India. According to updated prices on Apple India's website, the 256GB version of iPhone X has been raised by Rs.3,720 to Rs.1,05,720. Flipkart to sell refurbished smartphones soon

In 2016, the renewed smartphone market was a $17 Billion market with customers selling 120M used smartphones at an average value of $140 per device. It is estimated that it represents a 7% of total smartphone sales.at the same time refurbished market is booming in India . Flipkart is also looking to organise the "unorganised" refurbished market of India, and build it too. The selling of refurbished smartphones to start from Diwali and will be sold on the online marketplace and offline retail stores, for which discussions have been held with distributors. Apple’s next-gen iPad, iPhones are now powered by new chips

Apple has recently introduced its iPad Pro, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, powered by new chips with an updated architecture, at the 7,000-person capacity Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. The iPad Pro runs on a 64bit A9X, Apple’s third generation of custom designed processors. Apple officials announced that A9X has twice the memory bandwidth than A8X and is 1.8 times faster than the 8X processor inside the MacBook Air 2. The tablet supports 802.11ac MIMO and up to 150Mbit/s LTE. As per Apple Vice-President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schille, the iPad Pro is faster than 80 per cent of the PCs that was shipped in the past six months and its graphics are faster than 90 per cent of those PCs...
