4G Smartphones continued its growth in emerging markets in 2Q, 2017: Gartner

Global sales of smartphones to end-users totalled 366.2 million units in the second quarter of 2017, a 6.7-per cent increase over the second quarter of 2016, according to Gartner, Inc. In the smartphone operating system market, Android extended its lead with 87.7-per cent market share, while iOS accounted for 12.1 per cent.  "Although demand for utility smartphones remains strong, there is a growing demand in emerging markets for 4G smartphones, with more storage, better processors and more advanced cameras. Worldwide IT spending is projected to total $3.5 trillion in 2017, a 2.4 percent increase from 2016, according to Gartner. "Digital business is having a profound effect on the way business is done and how it is supported," said John-David Lovelock, vice president and distinguished analyst, Gartner. "The impact of digital business is giving rise to new categories; for example, the convergence of "software plus services plus intellectual property," added Lovelock.   Industry-specific disruptive technologies include the Internet of Things (IoT) in manufacturing, blockchain in financial services (and other industries), and smart machines in retail. Connected car to grow rapidly over next five years

Connected car production is growing rapidly in both mature and emerging automobile markets, according to the latest forecast by Gartner . The production of new automobiles equipped with data connectivity, either through a built-in communications module or by a tether to a mobile device, is forecast to reach 12.4 million in 2016 and increase to 61 million in 2020. Gartner defines the connected car as an automobile that is capable of bidirectional wireless communication with an external network for the purpose of delivering digital content and services, transmitting telemetry data from the vehicle, enabling remote monitoring and control, or managing in-vehicle systems. “The connected vehicle is the foundation for fundamental opportunities and disruptions in the automotive industry and many other vertical industries,” said  James Hines, research director, Gartner ... Oppo overtakes Xiaomi to become No 4 in global smartphone sales

Oppo has overtaken Xiaomi to become No 4 player in global smartphone sales according to the second quarter of 2016 Worldwide Smartphone Sales report by Gartner. Among the top five smartphone vendors, Oppo exhibited the highest growth in the second quarter of 2016 at 129 percent. 1.6 Billion Connected Things will be used by Smart Cities in 2016-Gartner

Gartner has estimated that 1.6 billion connected things will be used by smart cities in 2016, an increase of 39 per cent from 2015. “Smart commercial buildings will be the highest user of Internet of Things (IoT) until 2017, after which smart homes will take the lead with just over 1 billion connected things in 2018,” said Bettina Tratz-Ryan, Research Vice-President, Gartner. “Commercial real estate benefits greatly from IoT implementation. IoT creates a unified view of facilities management as well as advanced service operations through the collection of data and insights from a multitude of sensors. Gartner Says that the Internet Of Things Will Change Cybersecurity Forever

Over 20 percent of enterprises will have digital security services devoted to protecting business initiatives using devices and services in the Internet of Things (IoT) by year end 2017, according to Gartner. Gartner defines digital security as the risk-driven expansion and extension of current security risk practices that protect digital assets of all forms in the digital business and ensures that relationships among those assets can be trusted. “The IoT now penetrates to the edge of the physical world and brings an important new ‘physical’ element to security concerns. India all set to commence Cloud Computing Project "Meghraj"

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   As per a latest announcement,  Meghraj, the Union Government's cloud computing project , Meghraj is all set to roll out next month. The project will initially focus on an e-Governance app store at the  National Data Center . Among other things, the Meghraj will also be a repository and marketplace of e-governance apps. These are cloud-ready apps that can run on national clouds or others. They are also downloadable, and can be run at state data centers. The project can find application in areas like PDS and land records. However, specifics of such application are yet to be worked out. VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   As per the latest update, research firm  Gartner  lowered its projections for  global IT spending for 2013 to $3.7 trillion , while, according to the previous estimate, Garnet forecasted a growth rate of 4.1 per cent in overall IT spending.  It is important to note here that the IT spending was projected at $3.6 trillion in 2012. Exchange rate movements, and a reduction in our 2013 forecast for devices, account for the bulk of the downward revision of the 2013 growth. VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE As per latest information, global IT spending is expected to reach to a total of $3.8 trillion by 2013 end, a 4.1% increase from 2012 spending of $3.6 trillion. The report further revealed the information that the global devices spending is also expected to rise. According to an estimate, it is forecasted to reach $718 billion in 2013, up 7.9% from 2012.
