Quantum introduces new DXi Disk, Scalar Tape Solution

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Quantum Corp  has announced that an integrated  DXi disk and Scalar tape solution  are expected to save Serco Global Technology Delivery $2 million in storage costs over the next five years. Serco, which delivers a range of managed and outsourced business solutions, has already benefited, reducing disk capacity needs by up to 96 per cent and decreasing restore times by a factor of five. In the last three years, Serco’s technology business has grown steadily from a 50-terabyte (TB) environment into an 800TB infrastructure. Serco expects to reach five petabytes within five years and had sought a flexible solution to protect the increasing volumes of data while reducing excessive management costs. The company identified an integrated disk- and tape-based system as the obvious answer and turned to Quantum for help. Cisco India seeks 20% rise in video conferencing solutions

Minhaj Zia, Director for Collaboration Sales, Cisco India said, “Cisco expects to grow faster or higher than market growth of video conferencing in India which is 20 per cent. We are making video experience to be top notch at an affordable price so that SMBs can also adopt it.” Zia further said, "We are thinking of doing as well is to work on a pay-as- you-go model wherein they don't have to make an initial investment which is very high. Nokia Reports decline in Annual Revenue

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Nokia has reported decline in annual revenue to 2,227 million euros in 2012 from Indian business for the second consecutive year as compared to the revenue earned 2,952 million euros in 2010 regardless of increasing competition and currency fluctuation. Nokia has posted 23 per cent dip in revenue from 2,923 million euros at the end of 2011.  Spokesperson from Nokia said, "The year 2012 was one of transition for Nokia. While the first half of the year was challenging, our execution against a focused business strategy started to translate into financial results in the final three months of the year.” The spokesperson further added that sales from India captured company's cumulative revenue across all businesses including devices, infrastructure (Nokia Siemens Networks) and Here (formerly Location and Commerce).  In addition to this the report stated, "We are also seeing the emergence of various local mobile devi

Airtel may pay Rs. 500 to DoT as penalty

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   In a shocking move, Bharti Airtel has been ordered to stop offering third-generation (3G) services in seven regions. Also, it is expected that Airtel will soon get another notice for sharing its 3G airwaves with Vodafone and Idea.   Besides this, Airtel may be asked to pay a huge penalty of Rs 500 crore for the alleged violation.  As a matter of concern, it is found that Airtel will not have the permits to offer high-end data services from 18 March. It is important to note that recently DoT( Department of Telecommunication) had imposed a penalty of Rs 350 crore on Airtel for offering high-end data services in Kolkata, Maharashtra, Gujarat and four other regions, where it does not have 3G frequencies.  Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea won 3G airwaves in 13, 9 and 11 circles respectively in the auction took place.....
