Ericsson links Livability to Connectivity

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   In a new report by its ConsumerLab research team, Ericsson looks at the aspects of satisfaction in city life based on environment and social networking. Among the findings are that people in mega cities give mobile network coverage the fourth-highest satisfaction rating alongside water distribution and the availability of social spaces, ranging from cafés to entertainment facilities. On the other hand, poor air quality and lack of parking can impact dissatisfaction. “Urbanization is a global mega-trend. City populations grow by 7,500 people per hour, and people are clearly feeling some stress from overcrowding. But we also see how people in cities use ICT as a means to alleviate such feelings and to better experience city life,” said Michael Björn, Head of Research, Ericsson ConsumerLab. VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE According to Ericsson ConsumerLab's Emerging App Culture report, apart from the desire for better or faster internet access, the main reason for buying a smartphone is to gain access to mobile apps. The report is the result of research conducted in the high-growth markets of Russia, India and Brazil, and also reveals that new smartphone users embrace apps at the same pace as mature users. In addition, 69 per cent of smartphone users in the survey accessed internet using apps on a daily basis and 20 per cent used data-intensive services like video, TV, maps or navigation apps daily. For consumers, being connected and having access to tools and services is what matters. They make little distinction between having a smartphone and the apps they use in it. Ericsson ConsumerLab: Facebook changed dynamics of teenage dating

Ericsson believes that their behavior has important implications for the future of devices and technology. Ericsson ConsumerLab carried out research into what those implications will be in between June and November 2011. Ann-Charlotte Kornblad, Sr. advisor, Ericsson ConsumerLab said, "Behaviors are dynamic, and shift as people enter different life stages. Teenagers start to use communication tools in the same way as adults do as they get older. They will continue to use "their" tools such as texting, Facebook and video chat, but at the same time, they understand the need to use voice and e-mail as they move into the next stage of their lives."
