VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Bitdefender has announced the publication of its H1 2012 E-Threat Landscape Report, a comprehensive study of global malware, spam and phishing trends. According to the six-month study by Bitdefender labs, exploits, adware and spyware are the fastest-growing categories of malware, while exploits grew 10.76 from 20.8 per cent in the first half, and adware and spyware more than doubled. The report offers a comprehensive view of the spam and phishing landscape between January and June 2012. Although the spam count dropped nearly 5 per cent from the second half of 2011, it became more dangerous with the increase of malware-bundled attachments. VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Bitdefender has offered detection and removal of the latest e-threat affecting Mac OS X users. Identified earlier last week, the Flashback.L Trojan is thought to have infected more than 600,000 OS X computers worldwide by exploiting the Java runtime environment on the local machine. The malicious code is known to be hosted on websites that advertise themselves as user-generated video services. As the user lands on the compromised page, a piece of Javascript code loads a Java applet that exploits the locally-installed version of Java. Successful exploitation leads to the download and execution of a malicious file identified by Bitdefender as MAC.OSX.Trojan.FlashBack.L. This Trojan has a backdoor capability and also tries to harvest usernames and passwords used for services such as Gmail, PayPal, and e-banking, amongst others. For More Details See www.varindia.com

A new bank-robber Trojan sets of a series of downloads and installations to rob one's bank account while dodging antivirus software. The new Mousetrap campaign starts as Java applets injected in popular websites infect visitors. The malicious applet, Trojan.Downloader.Java.OpenConnection.BA, disguised as Adobe Flash Player, pretends the clean html files to ensure its execution along with the opening of the piggybacked html page. Once executed, the applet downloads and installs another malicious executable file on the machine of the website visitors. The attackers likely use 0-day vulnerabilities in blogging web applications or brute-force weak administrator passwords to add their code in the header file.Once on the system, the banker updates itself by downloading newer versions from a second list of links.
