In this role, Howe is responsible for all development of Altera's silicon products, intellectual property (IP) libraries, and software products, as well as overseeing the company's global research and development organization. Previously, Howe served as Altera's Vice President, IC design. He reports to John Daane, Altera's President, CEO and Chairman of the board. VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Altera Corporation has interoperated its 28-nm Stratix V GX FPGA with PLX Technology's ExpressLane PCI Express (PCIe) Gen3 switch. Stratix V GX FPGAs feature hard PCIe Gen3 IP blocks and are the only FPGA shipping that interoperate with a PCIe Gen3 switch. VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Altera Corporation has announced a development program focused on the Open Computing Language (OpenCL) standard for FPGAs and SoC FPGAs. The OpenCL standard is a C-based open standard for parallel programming. Altera's OpenCL program combines the parallel performance capability of FPGAs with the OpenCL standard to enable powerful system acceleration. This heterogeneous system (CPU plus FPGA using the OpenCL standard) also has a significant time-to-market advantage compared to traditional FPGA development using lower level hardware description languages (HDLs) such as Verilog or VHDL. Through its OpenCL program, Altera has engaged with multiple customers and expanded its university program to support the OpenCL standard for FPGA development in academia, and is actively contributing to the evolution of the OpenCL standard based on customer feedback. This latest software release features expanded support for Altera's 28-nm FPGAs, including compilation support for Arria V and Cyclone V FPGAs and enhanced support for Stratix V FPGAs. Quartus II software version 11.1 also includes added support for Altera's system-level debug tool, System Console. System Console raises the level of abstraction for debugging and works in tandem with low-level debug tools, such as Altera's SignalTap II embedded logic analyzer, to significantly reduce verification time.
