Mobile internet users to touch 46 mn in India by Sep 2011

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and market research leader IMRB has released a report titled Mobile Internet in India. According to the report- India currently has 35 million mobile internet users, out of which- 26.3 million users are grouped as active users. The number of mobile internet users in India is expected to touch 46 million in September 2011. The report also highlights that Mobile internet usage has been observing a 15 per cent growth quarter on quarter. Online activities are mostly accessed followed by e-mail, chat and social networking sites. 5.4 mn active users access Mobile Apps. Only 1.96 million people use e-banking through mobile internet and 90 per cent of mobile internet users have pre-paid connection. The report also claimed that the average handset cost for internet phone is Rs. 6,700 while average mobile phone bill for active mobile internet user is Rs. 389. Sterlite sustains India's Global Competitiveness

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Sterlite has received two new contracts from Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) for manufacture and supply of power conductors. These contracts valued at about Rs.225 crore, are part of a total bank of new orders valued at about Rs.450 crore that Sterlite has received since July 1, 2011. The First contract is for Sterlite power conductors, that would be used in the 765KV double circuit Champa-Raipur Pooling Station Transmission Line in the Indian State of Chhattisgarh and the second contract is for Sterlite power conductors that would be used in the 400KV Kishnganj-Patna Line. This transmission system is intended to evacuate power from hydroelectric generation projects in Sikkim, to the Northern and Western regions of India. This project complements the Ministry of Power's focus on green energy, generated from renewable natural resources. Capgemini Consulting announces figures from Global Trade Flow Index

Driven largely by the impact of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and the resulting effect on trade with major economies, Capgemini Consulting's analysis shows that levels of global trade continued to fall in Q2 2011, by a further one per cent quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q), leading to an eight per cent decline in global trade volumes overall in the first six months of 2011. The report also highlights the impact of the recent E. coli outbreak in Europe on global trade levels. The analysis reveals that while heavily impacted by Japan's reduction in industrial production and a rise in commodity prices, the US retains its position as global leader in overall trade volumes, despite a reduction in total trade of two per cent in Q2 2011 q-o-q. Mahindra Satyam places 300 fresher

HCL Tech sets BPO centre in the Philippines

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE HCL Technologies plans to establish a BPO delivery facility in the Philippines by June 2012. HCL BPO presently has overseas delivery expansion in the UK, Northern Ireland, US and Poland. The BPO services business has posted revenue of about $48 million during the June quarter, up 4.7 per cent year-on-year and down 4.4 per cent on sequential basis. The EBITDA losses for the BPO business narrowed to $0.9 million from $5.2 million in the year-ago period. At the EBIT level again, the losses came down to about $4 million against $6.5 million in the June quarter 2010, and $4.5 million in March quarter 2011. Vineet Nayar, HCL Tech VC & CEO said, "We had predicted $7-million loss every quarter till December. HP extends Converged Storage Leadership
