Happiest Minds launches Crowd-Sourced Corporate Logo

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Ashok Soota of Happiest Minds has announced the shortlisted logos and commenced the voting process. The first crowd sourced exercise to create a corporate logo in India, the logo contest attracted over 1,000 entries from individuals, artists and professional design firms. In the first phase, 150 entries have been shortlisted. BSNL, Private Players join hands to revive Manufacturing Units

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE BSNL is reportedly tieing up with private telecom players with an aim to revive seven of its manufacturing facilities. The factories in question are located at Jabalpur, Richhai, Bhilai, Kolkata, Gopalpur, Kharagpur and Mumbai. The State-owned company manufactures a range of telecom products at these units. These include SIM cards, telecom towers, telecom poles, modems, pay phones and accessories. BSNL registered a net loss of Rs.1,823 crore on revenue of Rs.32,046 crore in 2009-2010. The company, in all likelihood, will post losses again for the financial year ended 31st March, 2011. The company recorded a net profit of over Rs.10,000 crore in 2005-06. iPhone surpasses BlackBerry in US

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Apple's iPhone has jumped Research In Motion's BlackBerry to grab fourth place among handset manufacturers in the United States. The iPhone's share of US mobile subscribers rose to 8.7 per cent in the three months ending in May from 7.5 per cent three months earlier, while RIM's share fell to 8.1 per cent from 8.6 per cent. Samsung was the top handset manufacturer overall with a 24.8-per cent share of US mobile subscribers, unchanged from three months earlier. LG was next with a 21.1-per cent share of mobile subscribers, up from 20.9 per cent, followed by Motorola, which fell to 15.1 per cent from 16.1 per cent. Google's Android operating system was the top smartphone platform with a 38.1 per cent share of US smartphone subscribers in the three months to May, up from 33.0 per cent in February. Macmillan Group to sell Indian Technology Solutions and BPO firm MPS

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Macmillan Group is set to sell its Indian technology solutions and BPO firm MPS. Macmillan holds 61% stake in MPS. The company employs around 1,000 people and undertakes publishing services work for the UK-based parent as well as third-party clients. Ernst & Young has been mandated to find a suitor for MPS. The deal-making has faced valuation challenges due to Macmillan's expectations and its depressed stock price. The underperforming stocks of the mid-sized and small IT services firms have been a major hurdle for some of these firms looking to sell stake or raise funds. Potential suitors would also seek long-term outsourcing work from Macmillan, which the publishing group has been cagey about in the past, sources added. MPS stock moved up 3.63% closing at Rs.37.15 on BSE. Macmillan was looking at offloading shares at nearly 40% premium, factoring in the real-estate assets in Bangalore. Wipro job racket busted

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Four persons, including a woman, were arrested for allegedly duping at least 37 job seekers to the tune of Rs.1.80 lakh on the pretext of providing them employment at a leading IT firm. The accused were identified as Rajiv Ranjan (30) from Bihar, Mohammed Azar (25) a native of Andhra Pradesh, Sathya Priya (25) a resident of Tamil Nadu and M. N. Naryanana (29) hailing from Kerala, as per Bangalore Police Commissioner B. G. Jyothiprakash Mirji. B. G. Jyothiprakash Mirji said, "Priya would lure job seekers and collect documents and original certificates from them with a promise to get them employed in Wipro in Bangalore. BT Opens New Tech Showcase in New Delhi

The new facility is part of BT's ongoing investment plan in Asia Pacific, aimed at delivering enhanced service delivery capabilities as customers invest throughout the region. Canon plans to launch Compact Mirrorless Camera

This mirrorless model from Canon is likely to feature many of the capabilities of an upmarket single-lens reflex camera in a more compact body. Sony, Canon's arch-rival, already has such a mirrorless camera in their pipeline. Masaya Maeda, Head of the company's camera division, said, "An increase in capacity in Taiwan would bring the firm's production capacity for single-lens reflex cameras to 10 million units per year." Indian Railways to roll out new e-Ticketing Service

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Indian Railways is all set to roll out its own e-ticketing service, which will have no room for travel agents and will be reserved for individual users. Travel agents in the IRCTC service have been accused of blocking tickets to sell them at a premium. Public resentment has also led the Railways to bar travel agents from booking tatkal tickets during peak hours on the IRCTC portal. Under the new railway e-ticketing service, individual customers would need to register themselves for the first time for availing the services. The registration will be free of charge. A maximum of eight transactions per user ID per month will be allowed in the beginning, the official said, adding the service charges levied will be Rs.5 per ticket for sleeper class and Rs.10 per ticket for all other classes. IRCTS charges Rs.10 per ticket for sleeper class and Rs.20 per ticket for all other classes. The new service will be available on its web portal www.indianrai
