Paula Scher redesigns Microsoft Windows logo

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Microsoft has unveiled that it was redesigning the logo of Windows software, making a fundamental change to the iconic four-colour Windows logo users have been used to for 20 years. According to market buzz, the new logo is said to be slightly-angled blue block with a thin white cross in the middle, meshing with the Metro design of Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8. The new logo is designed by Paula Scher from the Pentagram Design Agency. Microsoft claimed in a blog post, "The Windows logo is a strong and widely recognized mark but when we stepped back and analyzed it, we realized an evolution of our logo would better reflect our Metro style design principles and we also felt there was an opportunity to reconnect with some of the powerful characteristics of previous incarnations." UNET selects Ciena and Telindus-ISIT

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Ciena Corporation has announced that the Dutch information and communications services provider UNET has selected Ciena's Carrier Ethernet Solutions (CES) for the expansion and upgrade of its metro and access network. Ciena joined forces with Telindus-ISIT to offer UNET a solution for rolling out scalable, cost-effective service provider services and expand its geographical reach in the Netherlands. The upgrade is said to allow additional customer growth for UNET and support its position as an alternative to traditional telecoms service providers. Lumenpulse enters into Partnership with Technolite

Gartner: Worldwide Smartphone Sales scored 47% Growth in Q4 2011

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Worldwide smartphone sales to end users soared to 149 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011, a 47.3 per cent increase from the fourth quarter of 2010, according to Gartner, Inc. Total smartphone sales in 2011 reached 472 million units and accounted for 31 percent of all mobile devices sales, up 58 percent from 2010. Smartphone volumes during the quarter rose due to record sales of Apple iPhones. As a result, Apple became the third-largest mobile phone vendor in the world; overtaking LG. Apple also became the world's top smartphone vendor, with a market share of 23.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2011, and the top smartphone vendor for 2011 as a whole, with a 19 percent market share.
