Cisco helps Jaipur to become First Lighthouse City in South Asia

Cisco has announced the city of Jaipur, Rajasthan to be the first Smart+Connected Community “Lighthouse City” in South Asia. Cisco Lighthouse City status credential is assigned to a select list of cities all over the world. With this development, Jaipur will gain access to Cisco’s huge global network and channel programme capabilities; and the city will also benefit from the economic and social transformation set to occur as the country embarks on the next phase of the Digital India programme. Cisco’s VNI predicts IP traffic to grow 4-fold in India

According to the 10th annual Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Forecast, annual Internet Protocol (IP) traffic will quadruple between 2014 and 2019. Factors expected to drive traffic growth include increase in consumption of mobile data, proliferation in number of networked devices (from 1.1 billion in 2014 to 1.6 billion in 2019), faster broadband speeds (average fixed broadband speed to increase from 4 Mbps in 2014 to 12 Mbps by 2019) and the increased consumption of video. Collectively, these variables are expected to help IP traffic in India to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 33 percent – as against a corresponding global CAGR of 23 percent. Cisco to transform Jaipur City into a Smart City

Jaipur will embrace the benefits of connectivity and digitization to transform itself into a Smart+Connected city. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has chosen Cisco to develop smart city infrastructures that will improve the efficiency and quality of services received by its 3.5 million residents and over 40 million tourists who visit the city every year. With this launch, Jaipur becomes one of the first state capitals in India to showcase a comprehensive roadmap to become a world-class smart city. JDA will set up the digital infrastructure to offer citizens amenities, including connected transport, interactive kiosks, wireless broadband, safety and security services, traffic management and environmental updates. Cisco Chief Chambers urges Obama to rein in NSA snooping

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Cisco Systems' chief executive officer and chairman  John Chambers   has written a letter to  US President Barack Obama urging him to curtail  National Security Agency's (NSA) surveillance  activities after evidence circulated showing the NSA had intercepted the networking equipment giant. According to Chambers, it will have a dire effect on the global economy. In the letter, he warned of warned of an undermining of confidence in the US technology industry and called for new "standards of conduct" in how the NSA conducts its surveillance.
