Sony plans to boost VAIO Sales in India

Google gives tips to make your travel easier

Tata Tele wants GSM spectrum in 39 districts

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTL) has written to the Department of Telecom to release start up spectrum for its GSM services in 39 districts across the country. The company, which had got 2G licences in 2008, had not got start up spectrum of 4.4 MHz in Delhi and 39 other districts. Recently, the Telecom Dispute Settlement Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) upheld an appeal by the company and ordered DoT to allocate GSM spectrum to Tata Teleservices in Delhi. Buoyed by the TDSAT order, Tata Teleservices has written to the DoT claiming spectrum in other regions as well. DoT had put TTL's application under the new operator's category. This category was behind the existing operator's category in terms of spectrum allocation. TDSAT upheld TTL's argument that it was an existing operator and, therefore, entitled to spectrum along with other dual technology players. EAFT Tech launches Marathon 'Made In India' tablet

Samsung favors Via Telecom, drops Qualcomm

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Samsung has chosen Via Telecom to supply the CDMA chipset for new Droid 'CHARGE' handset that it is providing to the US market via Verizon. This may represent the first salvo of a market assault on Qualcomm's long-undisputed command of CDMA markets in the US and elsewhere. In addition to the Via Telecom CDMA chip, Samsung is using its own proprietary baseband chip for the LTE. Vice President of Engineering, James Mielke said, "We have been following Samsung's decision-making closely for some time, and we see a trend towards using suppliers from closer to home, in the East-Asia region. For example, the RF for both CDMA and LTE in this phone is supplied by Korean vendor FCI." This represents Via Telecom's first venture into the CDMA market in the United States, although ABI Research believes versions of this phone will ship into all of Samsung's CDMA markets worldwide. Vodafone, Idea, Airtel join hands for pan-India 3G services

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Three major telecom players - Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Bharti Airtel - have entered into agreements to provide pan-India 3G services. The three will now use each other's networks through intra-circle roaming arrangements where they do not have licences. Airtel, Aircel and Reliance Communications each own 3G spectrum licence in 13 of the 22 telecom circles, while Vodafone, Idea and the Tatas each have licence in nine circles. Just Vodafone has officially confirmed the arrangements. Vodafone said, "It has entered into a bilateral roaming agreement with Idea and Airtel in circles where we have not built our own 3G network. Shift to Windows7; XP is departing

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Microsoft has declared on its blog that it's time for the Windows XP Operating System to retire. Windows XP was hugely successful for about 10 years. Microsoft said that they have begun a countdown of 1000 days, after which they won't provide support for Windows XP. Around three years from today, on 8 April 2014, Microsoft won't provide security patches and hotfixes of different versions of Windows XP. "Many third-party software providers are not planning to extend support for their applications running on Windows XP, which translates to even more complexity, security risks, and ultimately, added management costs for your IT department if you're still managing Windows XP environments.
