VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Alvarion Ltd. has announced that uMAX has selected its 4Motion solution to the roll-out a sizeable 4G network in its capital Harare. uMAX has commissioned Alvarion's 4Motion solution to introduce Zimbabwe's first 4G network for the delivery of high-speed wireless broadband services to residential and business customers in the 2.5 GHz frequency. uMAX will use Alvarion's 4G solution to deliver services such as VoIP, video-streaming and high-speed Internet. The deployment of Alvarion's end-to-end 4G solution is supposed to be designed to supply its residential and corporate customers with more advanced broadband services enabled through USB dongles and other indoor and outdoor Customer Premises Equipment. uMAX claims to be the first service provider to enable consumers and businesses access to such services in Zimbabwe. VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE Alvarion Ltd. has announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire privately-held Wavion for approximately $30 million in cash. This firm is an Israeli-based technology leader in carrier-grade WiFi applications. Wavion's revenues for the past 12 months total about $16 million. The deal is expected to close before the end of the year. Alvarion intends to combine Wavion's best-of-breed WiFi platform with its 4G RAN solution and recently-acquired DAS (distributed antenna systems) capabilities to create a full suite of capacity and coverage solutions that is not available from any other vendor anywhere in the world. Alvarion believes that current coverage and capacity challenges cannot be addressed effectively by any single technology.
