UNSW creates future with launch of 'unique' quantum computing company and in a bid to launch 10-qubit forerunner to a silicon-based quantum computer. Australia’s first hardware quantum computing company, Silicon Quantum Computing Pty Ltd, has been launched to advance the development and commercialisation of UNSW Sydney’s world-leading quantum computing technology. VARINDIA welcomes the Apex Courts decision on Right to Privacy is fundamental right, it is a historic judgment that privacy is a fundamental right under Article 21, which declared privacy to be a fundamental right, ‘protected as an intrinsic part of the right to life and personal liberty. This verdict comes two days after the court in a landmark judgment struck down the Islamic divorce practice of instant triple talaq as unconstitutional.  The nine-judge bench unanimously ruled that privacy is a fundamental right under the Indian Constitution. The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India J S Khehar, comprised of Justices J Chelameswar, S A Bobde, R K Agrawal, R F Nariman, A M Sapre, D Y Chandrachud, S K Kaul and S Abdul Nazeer. LinkedIn’s bug bounty program falls short to safeguard 500 million users

LinkedIn, according to the latest reports, has reported a critical security issue that could allow hackers to spread dangerous malware using its Messenger service.  Although LinkedIn hosts a bug bounty program wherein security researchers can report bugs directly to security@linkedin.com, this bug remained undisclosed until professionals at Checkpoint Technologies found it.  Commenting on this, Ankush Johar, Director of BugsBounty.com, said, “Checkpoint reported the bug on 14 June, 2017, but the messenger service has been running with CV functionality since 2015. 4G Smartphones continued its growth in emerging markets in 2Q, 2017: Gartner

Global sales of smartphones to end-users totalled 366.2 million units in the second quarter of 2017, a 6.7-per cent increase over the second quarter of 2016, according to Gartner, Inc. In the smartphone operating system market, Android extended its lead with 87.7-per cent market share, while iOS accounted for 12.1 per cent.  "Although demand for utility smartphones remains strong, there is a growing demand in emerging markets for 4G smartphones, with more storage, better processors and more advanced cameras. The company says the chips are capable of a 40-percent increase over their predecessors - and even more notable for those finally ready to upgrade an old system: about double the performance of a five year old device.  The performance boost comes as laptop makers are expected to increasingly push the envelope with their systems. IT ministry writes to 21 Smartphone makers to disclose data security measures

After the recent escalation in number of security issues and to ensure the security of Smartphones, the IT ministry has asked 21 Smartphone manufacturers to share the procedures and processes they follow to fortify the security of data and Smartphones vended in India. According to the reports, the ministry has given time till 28th August to the 21 Smartphone vendors out of which majority are Chinese manufacturers, namely Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Lenovo and Gionee besides the renowned brands like Apple and Samsung. The ministry has also notified the companies with penalties such as unlimited compensation depending on the damage caused under the IT Act 43 (A) in case fixed processes are not being followed.  The orders have come out after many international and national reports which pointed out the data leaks from Smartphones.... BT joins hands with Dell EMC

Axis Bank acquires Freecharge

Axis Bank has entered into an agreement with Jasper Infotech Pvt Ltd to acquire 100 per cent stake for $60 million (Rs 385 crore) in its subsidiaries, namely, FreeCharge Payment Technologies Pvt Ltd and Accelyst Solutions Pvt Ltd, which together constitute the digital payments business under the 'FreeCharge' brand. The transaction is expected to close by the end of September 2017 subject to regulatory approvals. Shikha Sharma, Managing Director and chief executive of Axis Bank, added that the deal is key from a strategic perspective for the bank. While the bank is expecting regulatory clearance of the deal in two months, it might be looking to merge its wallet business with the latter. NSDC and Google to scale up Mobile Skill Development program

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), a public-private partnership enterprise under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), took a giant step towards scaling up the mobile developer ecosystem in India along with Google India by creating an Android Skill Development Program.  The two entities will work together to impart mobile development training on the Android and web platform to scale and improve the quality of mobile App development ecosystem in India.  Under the initiative, NSDC will introduce a specific course with a scope to train developers to create applications for the mobile platform that can be used on smartphone and tablets running on Android operating system.
