Nokia and WorldLink to help Nepal get superfast broadband services

Nokia and WorldLink are upgrading 650-km-long backbone network with Nokia’s 1830 PSS (Photonic Service Switch) DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology to support bandwidth-hungry entertainment and enterprise services across the country. The intercity network stretches from Kathmandu to Bhairahawa and Birgunj, and provides international connectivity between Nepal and other countries, including India. WorldLink, the largest fixed broadband operator in the Himalayan country, has 120,000 residential broadband subscribers and 5,000 enterprise broadband circuits. It is now connecting 10,000 residential Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) service subscribers every month, requiring the operator to meet ever-increasing demand for network capacity. NEC contributes to Fiber Cable Transmission

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   NEC has participated in Japan's first DWDM transmission of 100Gbps per wavelength, realized using commercial fiber cable along Japan’s highest volume transmission route connecting the 710 km between Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. These results were accomplished through 100Gbps optical transmission trials carried out by NTT Communications Corporation. Tests were conducted using existing commercial cable with the intention of introducing 100Gbps-DWDM systems to backbone networks in the near future. These actual operating conditions present a variety of operational challenges, including fluctuations in optical signal loss due to transmission route changes and variability in optical fiber characteristics (Chromatic Dispersion, Polarization-Mode Dispersion. BT Expands 21CN Using Ciena's DWDM Technology
