Vodafone slashes Internet charges by 80% in India

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Adding sparkle to festive mood in India,  Vodafone  has announced a massive 80% price-cut in charges for its Mobile Internet customers across the country. This rate would be applicable from November 1, 2013 for all pre-paid and post-paid customers on 2G on a "Pay-as-you- Go" basis. The rate cut from 10p/10KB to 2p/10KB will make the Internet more affordable for customers who use mobile internet in a limited way. These new PAYG rates, which are the same for both 2G and 3G, are the lowest in the market, making them extremely attractive for all customers across the country. Tata Elxsi and Algotochip announce Strategic Partnership

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   Tata Elxsi  and  Algotochip  have announced their partnership to provide rapid SoC solutions and services targeted at OEMs and custom chip makers. The companies' first collaboration is to develop digital chips and IP blocks that can support next-generation video services embedded with the latest 4K HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) technology. This leverages Tata Elxsi’s HEVC Ultra HD (4K) software that has been licensed to multiple customers. PCs are significant socio-economic growth driver in India: MAIT

VARINDIA- INDIA'S FRONTLINE IT MAGAZINE   MAIT - KPMG has reportedly released a report titled -"Indian Marketplace - IT the Unrealized Potential".  The report suggests that the Indian IT hardware industry can look forward to making a substantial impact by taking some of the steps such as bringing down the hardware cost by 43% with the help of the Government subsidies, reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) of a PC and broadband solution (currently estimated to be ~INR15,650 per annum), providing income tax exemption to individuals against PC purchase, and promote purchase of PCs amongst specific segments like students and less than INR5-lakh income households, among other steps.   The report estimates that in FY 2014-18, there could be an increase in sales of desktops and notebooks from 6 per cent to 18 per cent CAGR contributing additional GDP of INR66,300 crore, taxes of INR25,000 crore and generate new employment for 1,11,600 people.
