STMicroelectronics has announced that it has acquired ams’ (SIX: AMS) assets related to NFC and RFID reader business. ST has acquired intellectual property, technologies, products and business highly complementary to its secure microcontroller solutions serving mobile devices, wearables, banking, identification, industrial, automotive and IoT markets. Approximately 50 technical experts from ams have been transferred to ST. Qualcomm and GuangDong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications (OPPO) today announced that they have entered into a new 3G and 4G patent license agreement for China. Under the terms of the agreement, Qualcomm has granted OPPO a royalty bearing patent license to develop, manufacture and sell 3G (WCDMA and CDMA2000) and 4G, including 3-mode (LTE-TDD, TD-SCDMA and GSM) complete terminals. The purpose of this exercise is to provide central universities a Wi-Fi enabled campus network which would be connected to the National Knowledge Network (NKN) so that they can leverage the potential of ICT in teaching and learning process for the benefit of all the learners in higher education institutions in any time and any where mode.
