STMicroelectronics unveils Smart Reset Chips

STMicroelectronics has introduced a new generation of its Smart Reset chips. Pioneered by ST smart-reset Integrated Circuits provide a safe, convenient and intuitive means of resetting 'frozen' gadgets.

"The proliferation and complexity of mobile apps, operating system versions, and hardware platforms have inevitably brought about interoperability issues, with consumers increasingly experiencing frozen operation, or the 'White Screen of Death,' on their portable devices. ST's stand-alone smart resets deliver a reliable and risk-free reset mechanism - an important factor in maintaining user satisfaction and brand adherence in today's fragmented and highly competitive mobile market," said Alberto De Marco, Director of Standard & HiRel Products Business Unit, STMicroelectronics.

STM6524, ST's newest dual-assert Smart Reset IC. Its two inputs connect to a selected pair of buttons on an electronic gadget. When these buttons are held down simultaneously for a manufacturer-specified time, the IC sends a reset signal to the main processor. The combination of two inputs and programmable delay time effectively prevents accidental resets. ST is also introducing a new single-assert Smart Reset IC, the STM6519, which targets single-button electronic devices like tablets and e-readers, with a similar programmable delay reset.

DoT Secretary hints at making Draft NTP 2018 available in public domain soon

“A draft National Telecom Policy 2018 that is liberal and non-prescriptive in its licensing approach in Machine to Machine (M2M) communication is being given final touches. The policy should be in the public domain in the next two to three weeks for discussion and responses from stakeholders,” said Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications. Aruna Sundararajan said, “M2M is the next big opportunity for India in terms of its impact and the quantum change that it will bring about in the quality of services and delivery. The favourable impact of M2M on job creation had already set in as seen by the arrival of the first set of start-ups in the areas such as agriculture, smart cities, healthcare and water management.” She stressed that NTP 2018 would be transformative in harnessing the full benefits of M2M communications.
