Convergys to recruit 1,000 by year end

Convergys Corp. is expected to increase 1,000 jobs in India by December. The Company is already said to have increased 1,500 jobs (net additions) in India so far this year. The Company presently has a headcount of about 12,000 in India. Three of its customer management centres are in Gurgaon and one each in Pune, Thane and Bangalore. Convergys also has an information management centre in Hyderabad.

Hanumant Talwar, MD & Country Manager - India, Convergys said, "We are seeing demand from clients and a lot of that is concentrated toward India at this point. We grow in markets where our clients want us to be. It was too early to predict the impact of the US debt crisis on demand for BPO services, but it could have a positive spin-off for outsourcing. Organisations may have to bring down their costs and so they may tend to outsource more. Our main thrust right now is Gurgaon and Bangalore. In the next six months, the key drivers (for hiring) will be Pune, Bangalore and Thane."

Convergys is also scouting for new locations in India but did not divulge the potential sites. Globally, the Cincinnati, Ohio-headquartered company has approximately 70,000 employees in 67 customer contact centres and facilities in the US, Canada, Latin America, Europe, West Asia and Asia.

DoT Secretary hints at making Draft NTP 2018 available in public domain soon

“A draft National Telecom Policy 2018 that is liberal and non-prescriptive in its licensing approach in Machine to Machine (M2M) communication is being given final touches. The policy should be in the public domain in the next two to three weeks for discussion and responses from stakeholders,” said Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications. Aruna Sundararajan said, “M2M is the next big opportunity for India in terms of its impact and the quantum change that it will bring about in the quality of services and delivery. The favourable impact of M2M on job creation had already set in as seen by the arrival of the first set of start-ups in the areas such as agriculture, smart cities, healthcare and water management.” She stressed that NTP 2018 would be transformative in harnessing the full benefits of M2M communications.
