"Father" of Bluetooth Technology nominated

Dr. Jaap Haartsen, Former Ericsson Employee and credited as the “Father” of Bluetooth technology, was nominated for the European Inventor Award 2012 in the Industry category this year. Haartsen invented Bluetooth and developed it with his partner Sven Mattisson in 1994, when both men were working at Ericsson in Sweden.
Since Bluetooth was designed to unify standards, Haartsen and Mattison named it after King Harald “Bluetooth” Gormsson, who united three Danish tribes into one Danish Kingdom. The king was called Bluetooth because he liked blueberries so much he had blue teeth.
The Bluetooth logo also stems from King Harald Bluetooth with the long-branch Nordic runes for “H” and “B” comprising the design we see in the blue oval of the logo.
