BIS no more wants India to be the dumping yard 
The Government of India is planning to take a control over the dumping of IT products in the Indian industry, as day by day India is becoming the dumping yard for electronic products. As a result of this, from July 3 onwards, IT products in India will also carry Indian Standard (IS) certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). India is also planning to ban all electronic products from India that do not carry BIS mark.
The Indian Government has informed that it will not make any relaxation in this rule. 15 categories of products will fall under the registration process started by the Government. Therefore, these products need to be registered under BIS.

According to J. V. Ramamurthy, President, MAIT, said, “More than 1,400 products have been given for getting BIS certification. However, we received only one product with this certification. The Government has assigned only 9 labs to dot the tests. The labs must have thorough knowledge regarding the parameters of test and how to test. But the labs do not have clear awareness about these things.” 
These categories of products include tablets, laptops, plasma/LCD/LED televisions, set-top boxes, optical disc players, microwave ovens, video games, printers, scanners, etc. The deadline for certification has been extended to July 3. Every product manufactured after July 3 or which comes to a port after that date must carry the certification details.

“This policy is very good and it encourages only genuine products in the market. However, the problem is the deadline. Executing this rule in this time frame is the problem. The sad thing is that nobody is questioning this time frame,” said Amar Babu, MD, Lenovo.
However, IT manufacturers are not satisfied with this move of the India Government. The manufacturers are telling that the deadline is too short.....See More

DoT Secretary hints at making Draft NTP 2018 available in public domain soon

“A draft National Telecom Policy 2018 that is liberal and non-prescriptive in its licensing approach in Machine to Machine (M2M) communication is being given final touches. The policy should be in the public domain in the next two to three weeks for discussion and responses from stakeholders,” said Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications.
