Delhi gets first Technical University for Women

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit has inaugurated first University in the country for Women students who want to pursue higher education in the field of technology and research. The University has been named Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTU), created after the upgradation of what was previously the Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology.
The University has opened courses for women students who have B.Tech, M.Sc. or MCA degrees and are looking to pursue research in the field of technology and innovation.
Smt. Sheila Dikshit said, “Women’s participation in technical education plays an important role in the economic growth and development of the country. Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University (IGDTU) for Women has been set up to impart quality education to women so that well qualified female engineers become part of the workforce to meet growing demands of the industry.”
Nupur Prakash , Vice chancellor ,IGDTU said, “It is a historical moment as IGDTUW embarks on its journey to become the first Technical University for Women in the country. Over the past 15 years, the institute has emerged as the most sought engineering college among girls of Delhi and NCR and has become a brand name.”
The University is commencing M.Tech programs with an intake of 30 students for each course from August, 2013 with the degrees being offered in multiple disciplines like Information Security Management......See More
