Uganda regulator approves Warid Telecom's buyout by Airtel 
Uganda's telecommunication regulator has given a nod to the Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel on the acquisition of Warid Telecom. This acquisition will help the giant to bolster its position in the country.

In a statement by the company, it is said that Airtel's proposed acquisition of Warid Telecom has received approvals from the Uganda Communications Commission. With this, Airtel will further consolidate its position as the second-largest mobile operator in Uganda with a combined customer base of over 7.2 million and market share of over 39%.

Airtel Uganda Managing Director VG Somasekhar said that the acquisition will create a superior and wider network and the company will invest more in the key areas such as technological innovation and customer service.

The company will continue to invest in the country and the Warid customers will be able to retain their existing mobile numbers.
