In
order to become a productive and platform company in this mobile-first,
cloud-first world, Microsoft has acquired Acompli, provider of
innovative mobile email and calendar apps for iOS and Android operating
systems.
The
Acompli investment is part of Microsoft’s effort to help people do more
with their mobile devices, using powerful mobile email apps written for
iOS and Android operating systems, as well as improve overall
productivity across mobile platforms. The “bring-your-own-device” (BYOD)
concept is increasingly finding favour with more and more employees -
half of all email messages are read first on mobile devices – and this
brings context to the Acompli investment.
In
addition to being a killer app, the acquisition brings to the Microsoft
fold a pool of talented people who are passionate about reinventing
email and communications, especially for mobile screens. With this
cross-pollination of ideas, the company is well-placed than ever before
to deliver the full power of Microsoft Office to mobile devices faster.
The Acompli investment builds on Microsoft’s successful work earlier
this year, when the company made Microsoft Office available on iPad and
iPhone as well as announced plans to extend similar benefits to Android
devices....See More
