Amazon India aiming to cross Snapdeal sales

With E-tailers betting on more Indians switching to shopping online with a projection of 200 million new consumers by 2017, E-tailer giant Amazon has set its priority already by aiming to sell goods worth $2 billion by the end of this year. By doing this, it will become the fastest e-tailer in the country to cross this mark and thereby move closer to Snapdeal. Snapdeal on its part has achieved this milestone a few weeks ago.
Snapdeal achieved this mark only after waiting for more than four years where as Flipkart took seven years. If Amazon is able to achieve this feat then it will have taken half the time taken by Snapdeal.
In October last year, during the discount sales push `Online Shopping Dhamaka’, Amazon India seller club that has over 1 crore monthly sales grew 50% during the festive season while those with over 10 crore monthly sales seller club grew five times. The company’s peers are also setting ambitious targets in India’s fiercely competitive market, which is projected to grow to $23 billion (about 1.4 lakh crore) by 2019. Flipkart, is aiming to clock $5 billion (over 30,000 crore) by the end of March 2016 while Snapdeal has set a target of $3 billion. Myntra, India’s largest fashion etailer, which was acquired by Flipkart last year, aims to sell goods worth $1 billion (over 6,000 crore) by March next year. See more
