Lenovo rolls out first batch of Moto E from its Chennai Manufacturing Plant

In a significant development for Lenovo India and boosting the Make-in-India initiative, the PC maker has announced the start of local assembling of its Lenovo and Motorola smartphones in its Sriperambudur plant in Chennai. Lenovo is expecting to generate 6 million units in the current financial year and will look at touching 14 million units by next year.

However, the first batch of MOTO E has already started rolling out from the plant and the K3 note will follow soon, both of which are 4G devices.

Furthermore, the firm plans to source 30% of the components locally for the Indian market, going forward.

The company has partnered with global contract manufacturer Flextronics International to manufacture these products. As Amar Babu, COO, Asia-Pacific and Chairman, Lenovo India, puts it, the company has invested in a PC manufacturing facility in Pondicherry in 2005, the capacity of which has increased and hence Lenovo is not new to manufacturing in the country. “Lenovo is transforming into a global customer technology brand by differentiating itself on innovation and design.
