Siemens bags Rs 580 crore project for electrification of Gujarat Metro Link Express

The Indian mass-transit operator Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company has awarded an order of approximately Rs. 580 Crore (Euro 76.04 million) to the consortium of Siemens Ltd. India and Siemens AG, Germany for electrification of the 39.2-kilometer Metro Express Link in Ahmedabad. The line, currently under construction, will run in Ahmedabad city in two corridors.


Siemens will be responsible for the complete electrification of the new double-track Metro line. In addition, Siemens will also provide a SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system for monitoring and controlling the traction power.


“Metro will play a pivotal role in enhancing quality of life and economic growth of the city and the region. Mobility is an area of expertise for us and Siemens will continue to partner with the government to help improve connectivity and public infrastructure,” said Tilak Raj Seth, Executive Vice-President, Siemens Ltd. and CEO, Mobility Division in Lead Country India. DoT Secretary hints at making Draft NTP 2018 available in public domain soon

“A draft National Telecom Policy 2018 that is liberal and non-prescriptive in its licensing approach in Machine to Machine (M2M) communication is being given final touches. The policy should be in the public domain in the next two to three weeks for discussion and responses from stakeholders,” said Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications. Aruna Sundararajan said, “M2M is the next big opportunity for India in terms of its impact and the quantum change that it will bring about in the quality of services and delivery.
