WhatsApp to end support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone 8

With WhatsApp passing its end-of-life date of December 31, 2017, it is very soon ending its support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10 OS, and Windows Phone 8.0 (and older) operating system. However, BlackBerry 10 users will get a ‘grace period’ as stated in a reprieve that they have received from WhatsApp.


WhatsApp said in a support note, "These platforms don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer OS version, or to a newer Android running OS 4.0+, iPhone running iOS 7+, or Windows Phone 8.1+ so that you can continue using WhatsApp."


It was first announced that WhatsApp support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10 and Windows Phone 8.0 will end in 2016. This was later extended to December 31, 2017. Support for Nokia Symbian S60 platform ended on June 30, 2017.
