RSA has announced Dr. Zulfikar Ramzan has joined the company as Chief Technology Officer. In this role, Dr. Ramzan is responsible for leading the development of the company’s technology strategy and will focus on bringing to market the innovations that help protect RSA customers from the growing number of advanced threats. Prior to joining RSA, Dr. Ramzan served as CTO of Elastica, where he leveraged machine learning technologies and natural language processing to enable customers to more securely access and use cloud services. Before Elastica, Dr. Ramzan respectively served as Chief Scientist of both Sourcefire, acquired by Cisco in October 2013 and malware analytics company Immunet, acquired by Sourcefire in 2010. As per the report, India has emerged as the top nation in the APAC region in terms of phishing attack by volume closely followed by Australia and China. The estimated loss in India from phishing attacks stood at $225 million. Globally, the loss due to phishing attack was close-to $5.9 billion which is significantly higher than $1.5 billion loss in 2012. The total number of phishing attacks in 2013 stood at 448,126 as against 445,004 in the previous year. Using the Forbes Global 2000 list, the 2012 survey represents the first analysis of cyber governance postures of major corporations around the world. One of the most important advance findings is that boards and senior management still are not engaging in key oversight activities. The month of October which was coined the Cyber Security Awareness Month, by several US-based government bodies and used as a platform to increase security-literacy across the tiers that make up the digital society, also did not help deter phishers.
