Microsoft leads India Application Development Software Market

Microsoft India has been named leader in the India Application Development Software market in a report published by the leading independent market intelligence and advisory firm IDC (International Data Corporation). In the report titled "India Packaged Software Market Analysis and Forecast, 2010-2014", IDC considered the entire Application Development Software stack as per IDC's software taxonomy that includes tools providing functionality for Requirement Management, Design, Coding, Testing, Maintenance and Support.

The IDC report also states that the growth in the India tools market is attributed to a number of factors such as shift in the billing pattern towards fixed cost billing. Outsourcing projects are more driven by service level agreements (SLAs) and demand for reduction in cycle time, demand for increase in productivity and efficiency. Most system integrators (SIs) are diversifying and providing end-to-end software development life-cycle (SDLC) services and setting up standalone practices.

"With software development in India going up the value chain from basic code generation and maintenance to complete product development, the need for these tools is increasing. Our Visual Studio ALM avatar is one of the youngest in the marketplace and its cutting-edge design and technology has dawned a new era of next-generation ALM tools," said Moorthy Uppaluri, General Manager, Developer Partner Evangelism, Microsoft India.

According to company sources, Microsoft developer tools have a substantial mindshare among the developer community in India. Earlier this year, Visual Studio 2010 version captured the imagination of testers, designers and developers. The benefits which it brings to all roles across the software development life-cycle outweigh those offered by competing products.
