Obopay gets a new Global CEO

Obopay has promoted its President, Deepak Chandnani as CEO of Obopay. Founder and CEO, Carol Realini will assume the new role of Executive Chairman. In his new role, Chandnani will focus on the company's significant growth in size and geographic scope, while Realini will continue her focus on corporate strategy as well as furthering Obopay's corporate vision: evangelizing the need for mobile money and building its widespread adoption throughout the world.

Chandnani will be based out of Obopay's Corporate Office in Mumbai, India, while Realini will be based out of Obopay's Corporate Office in Redwood City, CA. Having Obopay's two most senior executives based in different corporate headquarters reflects the true global nature of Obopay's business.

"Over the last two years, Obopay has shaped and led the way for the mobile banking and payments space globally", said Realini, speaking on Chandnani's promotion. "Our revenue has doubled over last year and we expect it to do the same in 2011. Deepak has clearly demonstrated that he can scale the company as we continue our growth around the world," she added. "This promotion recognizes Deepak's immense contribution as well as fulfills a need for an expanded and experienced management team as we move forward."

DoT Secretary hints at making Draft NTP 2018 available in public domain soon

“A draft National Telecom Policy 2018 that is liberal and non-prescriptive in its licensing approach in Machine to Machine (M2M) communication is being given final touches. The policy should be in the public domain in the next two to three weeks for discussion and responses from stakeholders,” said Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications. Aruna Sundararajan said, “M2M is the next big opportunity for India in terms of its impact and the quantum change that it will bring about in the quality of services and delivery. The favourable impact of M2M on job creation had already set in as seen by the arrival of the first set of start-ups in the areas such as agriculture, smart cities, healthcare and water management.” She stressed that NTP 2018 would be transformative in harnessing the full benefits of M2M communications.
