Pacnet has launched its Sydney Data Centre, its latest investment into Australia that is designed to meet the rapidly-growing hosting and co-location demands of Australian businesses.

"Australia is one of our largest markets where we are seeing a huge demand for advanced IT solutions such as cloud computing services and disaster recovery, and also a growing amount of digital content being generated," said Bill Barney, Chief Executive Officer, Pacnet. "This is fuelling a growing demand for robust, high-grade data centre infrastructure, which we are delivering through our new Sydney Data Centre, and across the region through our recently launched Data Landing Stations in Hong Kong and Singapore."

According to Frost & Sullivan, the demand for data centrre services in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) is forecast to see a compound annual growth rate of 13.9% from $442.3 million in 2009 to $1.1 billion in 2016. The research firm also noted in a report that in 2009, capacity utilization in most data centres in ANZ was between 80–90%.

Located in the central business district of Sydney, the first phase of the new Pacnet Sydney Data Centre delivers 5,920 sq. ft. (550 square metres) of Tier-III data centre space and will raise the amount of data centre space that Pacnet operates globally to more than 105,420 sq. ft. (9,794 square metres). When fully built out, the Sydney Data Centre will scale up to 41,700 sq. ft. (3,870 square metres).
